Legends of Mildura: Myf Warhurst


Mildura, our sunny corner of northwestern Victoria, is renowned for its rich history, picturesque Murray River, and vibrant community. But beyond the vineyards and wide-open skies, Mildura has been the cradle of some truly remarkable Australians. Among them stands Myf Warhurst, a beloved media personality whose journey from our very own backyard to the national stage is both inspiring and heartwarming.

Childhood in Mildura

Born and raised in Mildura, Myf Warhurst’s early years were steeped in the warmth and creativity of our community. Growing up in a family that encouraged curiosity and expression, Myf’s love for music and storytelling was evident from an early age. Her father, who was also one the Mildura Mayor, was also an avid arts enthusiast who fostered a love of the arts in his children. —a soundtrack that undoubtedly influenced Myf’s future career.

Myf attended local schools in Mildura and often credits the supportive environment of her hometown for nurturing her confidence and creativity. While she may have left Mildura to chase her dreams, her formative years here instilled in her the grounded, approachable charm that Australians have come to adore.

After completing her education at Melbourne University, Myf’s career began in earnest as she delved into the world of journalism and music writing. Her big break came when she joined Triple J. Her encyclopedic knowledge of music and her natural warmth made her a perfect fit for the role, and she quickly became a household name among Triple J listeners.

Television Stardom

Myf’s affable personality and razor-sharp wit soon caught the attention of television producers. She joined the ABC’s cult-favorite quiz show Spicks and Specks in 2005 as a team captain. Alongside Adam Hills and Alan Brough, Myf’s quick-thinking humor and deep knowledge of music made her an integral part of the show’s success. The show ran for seven years, becoming one of Australia’s most beloved programs and solidifying Myf’s place in the entertainment industry.

Since Spicks and Specks, Myf has graced our screens in a variety of roles. She’s hosted and appeared on programs such as Myf Warhurst’s Nice, Eurovision: Australia Decides, and the Eurovision Song Contest broadcasts alongside Joel Creasey, where her commentary has been a highlight for viewers.

Beyond commentary Myf is also the voice behind Trixie on the hit children's TV show Bluey.

Today, Myf Warhurst continues her work with the ABC as a presenter, a role that perfectly marries her love for music and her quick-witted charm. Myf also co-hosts the popular podcast Bang On with Zan Rowe, where the duo dives into music, culture, and life with humor and insight. She’s also a passionate advocate for animal welfare being the ambassador for Pets of the Homeless. 

Despite her success and the glitz of her career, Myf has never forgotten her Mildura roots. She often speaks fondly of her childhood here, a testament to the enduring influence of our community on her life.
